Convention 2013 (Pittsburgh, PA): Women of Steel

Convention 2013
Convention 2013 is officially here and we have three of our girls attending who are on their way to Pittsburgh right now! We are beyond excited about convention this year and for the theme “Women of Steel!” What better theme to highlight just how influential and life changing our sorority and girls can be in any given community?
When all of the Omega Phi Alpha chapters come together in one place great things happen! We learn from one another, inspire each other and most importantly, we have fun together! Awards are given out, games are played, and lifelong bonds are formed. We also share ideas, recruitment techniques, and possible service projects for the upcoming school year! Not to mention, the focus of the President’s Project service category is revealed at convention as well! However, it’s not just all fun and games! We also debate and vote on certain business issues and possible amendments to our National Constitution, but mostly we have plenty of fun!
This year Rho Chapter is honored to have three of our sisters attending, including Amanda Reynolds (Rho President), Carrie Beth Henry (Rho Membership Director), and Brooke Thomas (Rho Panhellenic Representative). These girls are all ecstatic about going to Convention and they each have a different reason as to why. Here are a few words from each about what they are looking forward to most during convention!

“I hope to learn about the service projects of other chapters, how other chapters rush, and how to make Rho Chapter better for everyone. I also plan to learn about some finance options to help Rho as we grow. I’m excited to meet sisters from all over the country and I’m excited to share Rho’s progress with the rest of OPA. I’m eager for business issues to be voted upon. I’ve submitted a proposal to the business agenda and I can’t wait to see how it’s accepted. There are some constitutional amendments that could change OPA for the better and I’m really excited to see the debate and vote on these issues. I’m mostly excited to learn and be able to bring this new knowledge back to my lovely Rho sisters. I’m so honored to go to convention and be able to enjoy so much OPhiA love!”

“I can’t even begin to explain my excitement for National Convention this week. Last year I attended National Convention in Salt Lake City and it was such a remarkable experience to be surrounded by people that love this organization as much as I do. At convention you learn so much about the history of the sorority through the alumni and are able to see everything that goes into the operations of the sorority on a national level. But my absolute favorite part is having the opportunity to spend the week networking with sisters from across the country and sharing ideas as to how we can work to better our chapter here at WKU!”

“I am so excited for convention. I’m glad I have this opportunity to go! I am most looking forward to meeting other girls from different chapters and doing the different activities they have planned for us at convention. I hope to learn a lot about recruitment and things we could do that will help improve our chapter!”
